"I have been hooked on the alchemy of funk since the age of four, when I first saw Talensi minstrels perform, in the eastern Ghanaian town of Anyinam. I had looked on in awe, as the magic troupe flexed its muscles: the virtuoso drumming; the tingling hum of gonje fiddle; the punch of kologo and gimbri lutes; the jab and spin of iron whistle; the recitative singing; the decisive sizzle of shakers; the mythic ululation...while an Hausa magician drew a razor-sharp sword across his tongue and eyeballs to make hissing noises. Pure poetry. Funk."

Ishmael Annobil is a London-based film producer, director, screenwriter, cinematographer, published poet, critic, photographer, emblemist, drummer and digital composer. Ishmael has directed several keynote art documentaries for Stonedog, including 'Kenji Yoshida: Artist of the Soul'; 'In the Presence of Awe: The Transvangarde', and 'Hornsleth: Product of Love'. His surreal fictional feature, 'Salamander Walks', is currently in post, and his forthcoming fictional films include 'Icarus', a folksy Sci-fi set in Yorkshire, and 'Drosophila', a psychological thriller. He is currently producing and directing a definitive documentary about American artist Linda Karshan, and a documentary tribute to the Late Jose Ferez Kuri, international curator, agent, essayist, aesthete, and agent/friend of the great artists, Brion Gysin, William Borroughs, and Kenji Yoshida.

His first music album, Zingliwu, was released in 2013, and he plans to release one dance album and one neo-classical albums by Christmas 2017.
